Every Thursday I have an art club with a crazy group of about twenty 1st-5th grade kids. It's definitely not an art "class," but I think they learn a little something every time.
Today we learned how to create a Rorschach (of sorts), which was fun to watch them make, and hilarious to hear them try to say.
Lesson learned from this project: puffy paint is great for drawing, but dries painfully slowly. They were so into it, first doing random patterns and then venturing into more symmetrical designs, such as butterflies, cats, and of course, human faces.
I encouraged each of them to make at least one face especially, because it trains them to pay attention to the proportions of the face, and only half the face at that.
An hour and a half later, they were whining about having to clean up "already," and helping each other manage to hold four wet paintings each.
A rainy day well spent.
